An Inauspicious Arrival | Poetry

On the eve of your passing,
a year after your demise
I am reminded of my dream,
eerily similar to yours

I spoke of Lake Bled
turned into a skeleton
of its former green grandeur
the church split into two

tall spindly pines
resembling your bones
your body having lost its body mass.

You spoke of an isolated piece of land
surrounded by still waters;
pale white doors chiseled into
the remains of a rocky outcrop

the distorted visions getting clearer
as you were approaching an
emaciated island of brooding countenance

on a wobbling wooden plank
with the gauntly form
of a silent figure by your side.

I remember us laughing it off
as another illustration of our
eccentric imagination and flustered psyche

Little did I know that
i would reach there in the dead of night
with little awareness and no foreshadowing

while you would arrive in a coffin.
