grief, loss, nostalgic

Rest In Peace | Free Verse

We connected strongly over our love of verses;
sparse words and soft tender emotions
outpour with ease from the tip of your pen,
bringing me to blinding tears
over and over again.

We connected strongly over our love of travel;
captured in films and preserved in memory;
rose gardens, green meadows, fluorescent seas -
the many aromas of a lively summer
floating with the breeze.

We connected strongly over our love of films;
glued to the screen for hours into the night;
dark fantasy, princely tales of love and adventure
belonging to the secret otherworld -
our own magical venture.

I have not dealt with anything so devastating -
forced to bury a childhood that's gone;
a pitiable poet, alone and abandoned by time -
unable to find a reason and heal,
cannot write or rhyme.

How do I circumvent this bottomless void
in a way that doesn't crush my soul?
A lonely wanderer, devoid of essential supplies,
doomed to circle back to the start;
betrayed by sunlit skies.
